The downsides of hair systems

The downsides of a hair system are that it needs maintenance every 7–14 days, that it’s a recurring cost (it lasts between 5 and 7 months and then has to be replaced), that it needs care at home and that the attachment has to be chosen carefully for your skin. In return, there’s no surgery and you walk out with hair the same day.

The drawbacks of a hair system

It needs regular maintenance

The adhesive or tape loses its grip over the days, and the base builds up oil and dirt. That’s why it has to be removed, cleaned and fitted again every 12–14 days for a skin base and every 7–9 for a lace base, at a centre or at home. If you skip it, it becomes more noticeable and doesn’t last as long.

It’s a recurring cost

It’s not a one-off payment: on top of the hair system there’s maintenance and care products, and in time it has to be replaced with a new one. At Crinova Hair Center, each maintenance session costs 50 € at the centre (40 € with the largest pack) and a new hair system with fitting costs 530 €. We break it down in how much a hair system costs.

It doesn’t last forever

With use, the base and the hair wear out. The finer and more natural the base, the more delicate it is. It usually lasts between 5 and 7 months, depending on use and care.

It needs care at home

You need to wash it with the right products, style it gently and go easy on the heat.

Your skin may react

If the adhesive or tape isn’t right for your skin, or if sweat builds up, your skin may react. That’s why we choose the attachment with you and do the maintenance on time. If you have sensitive skin or any scalp problem, check with your dermatologist first.

If it’s poor quality or badly fitted, it shows

An unnatural hairline, a colour that doesn’t match or an old attachment give a hair system away.

Is a hair system worth it?

It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to have hair again without going under the knife, see the result from day one, and you don’t mind regular maintenance, it may well be worth it. If you’re after something that needs nothing afterwards, it’s not for you. If you’re torn between a hair system and a transplant, we explain the differences in the consultation.

How to reduce the downsides

  • Choose a base that suits your daily routine, not just the thinnest one.
  • Don’t skip maintenance.
  • Use products made specifically for hair systems.
  • Have a consultation before you decide: at Crinova Hair Center it’s free, at our hair system centre in Barcelona or at your home.

Frequently asked questions

Does a hair system have side effects?

It isn’t a medical treatment. If the attachment or hygiene isn’t right, your skin may react; if you have any scalp problem, check with your dermatologist first.

How long can you keep it on?

A fixed hair system is worn continuously from one maintenance session to the next; at each maintenance session it’s removed, cleaned and fitted again: every 12–14 days for a skin base and every 7–9 days for a lace base.

Is a hair system hot to wear?

It depends on the type of base: lace bases breathe better than skin or polyurethane ones. In the consultation we help you choose based on your daily routine.
